Pretty in Pink

Hello all.... Nina came by for a visit this afternoon and took some pictures. I had a greyt time just chilling out with her in one of the exam rooms. (She and Debutante came by for a short visit last Friday, but she didn't have her camera!) Dr. Pearce had to do surgery on my leg Monday and my bandage is changed every other day. My leg is soaked when the bandage is off because of the infection. I heard one of the staff tell her that my leg looked better today. I'm just happy that someone finally realized that I AM a girl and pink is my color! Nina told me about the Winter Gathering and how much fun she had, especially meeting Debutante's siblings and foster Mom, PamS. She said she also met my foster Mom, Anne-Marie. I know I have to get better before I can move to her house in Franklin, but it is so wonderful to know that I have a home waiting for me. I am having no problem eating ..... just working on healing.

A Dressing Change

Good evening everyone. Nina came by for a visit this afternoon and we just chilled out in one of the exam rooms. I had a busy morning 'cause Dr. Pearce needed to change my cast and bandage so he gave me a little sedation. As you can see from the picture someone really likes me in blue! The staff had to put a muzzle on me and apply some duct tape over it to me from chewing on my bandage. I don't know how long I'll have to stay with Dr. Pearce, but just as soon as he gives the OK, Nina wants to take me to my foster home in Franklin.

Back to Dr. Pearce

Good Morning everyone, There has been a change. I got up this morning about 6:15. Mom took me outside to go potty and then put me back in my crate to eat breakfast. After eating, she noticed some blood on the inside of my bandage. Of course that was not good, so she took back to see Dr. Pearce. We don't really know what, when, or how it happened, but he said I had luxated the joint. He gave me a little sedation and is going to get an x-ray then call my Mom to tell her what the plan is. Please pray it will be an easy fix and not complicated. Mom is really feeing bad.

Hospital Discharge

I got released this afternoon! YIPEE!!! My post-op recovery Mom, Nina, came to pick me up this afternoon. She took me to her house where I met Evan, Debutante, Barney, and my new Dad. I spent lots of time checking things out ..... like the available soft spots where I could lay around and recover. She took me outside and I did all my business on leash. Here's a few pictures to show you how comfortable I am. Dr. Pearce said I should get my stitches out next Saturday and then go to my foster home Sunday. WOW! I've had lots of new experiences......

A visit from Nina

Here I am receiving my first visitor. Nina said that she is going to be my post-op recovery Mom beginning Friday and then if Dr.Pearce gives his OK,she will take me to my foster Mom at the Winter Gathering. You can see from the picture she took that my leg is really bruised. Blue is NOT my color! She said that I will be really greyt at the Meeting & Greeting that us retired greyhounds should do to find our forever homes.

Today is the DAY!!

Today we got up really early and got in the car. I got to ride with this other dog that looks a lot like me. We rode for a long time!
Photobucket

When we finally stopped, there were some surprises in store for me. First Dr. Pearce, of Stage Road Animal Hospital, had to take my track applied splint off. I was very squirmy 'cause my leg hurts and I am just a squirmy hound. :)
Dawn
Dr. Pearce could not help but admire the signatures on my splint.
Dawn
I really did not want to have him take it off... I was really digging all the extra attention it got me.
Dawn
"Look Doc, My leg is not broken... I can still stand up on it"
Dawn
He was VERY impressed with the wrap job. Exceptional he said... He said that my Trainer must have really like me... I don't have to tell some of you. but Pops does love me. He only wants the best of what the world has to offer me.
Dawn
So this is me under the splint... doesn't look too bad. It is however bad enough to require surgery tomorrow. I don't know that I am looking forward to that.
Dawn
Kim even helped while I was getting my x-rays. It was kinda a snow day in Memphis so there weren't too many folks around to help Dr. Pearce.

A Day of Rest

Today I just hung out and waited for something to happen.... I just waited...
Dawn

Hellooooooo Nashville!!

HI! My name is Wks Dawn, but you can just call me Super Cute and Wiggley! Someone decided to give me a belated birthday gift and send me to Nashville.

I got here really late. I was just sleeping along listening to the hum of the engine when all of a sudden we made a stop, and I had to get out. I got up into the comfy van and settled in again. All the lights were very intriguing.

Then we got out again and I got the chance to take care of business before sleeping off the rest of the night.

I guarantee you will be seeing a LOT of me shortly.... I'm too cute to resist!

To Sleep or Not To Sleep?

So, I woke up this morning thinking... huh, do some taxes, do some GPA/N paperwork, laundry, mail some Auction winnings out, walk the hounds... generally, a day of relaxation. I was surprised to get this email in my box:

WKS Dawn broke her leg last night. Wanna spend some of that auction money? Bob can bring her early in the morning. Very early. He’s bringing 11 dogs to Florence for North Coast. North Coast is coming here to get them.
Duane

To which, my response was "Duane, give me a call" ... a little back story: Duane works with Queen City Greyhounds in Cincinnati. He had contacted me in the summer to see if we had a place that he could safely turn out his hounds on a haul from Birmingham to his group. Of course we had a place, and we had the opportunity to meet.

After nailing down a rehabilitative foster home - Thank you Anne-Marie and Jim - and contacting the rest of the Board, I called Bob, of L&K Kennel to let him know that we unanimously decided to make Dawn the first 2010 recipient of funds from the GPA/Nashville Angel Fund. He will be leaving the Birmingham track around 11pm tonight and calling me when he gets near Nashville. I anticipate laying my eyes on Dawn sometime between 2am and 3am.

I will take this opportunity to thank everyone that bid in the recent online auction. Without your bids this would not have been possible.
